In the sport of basketball there are many different types of dribbling. When you have the ball, it's always important to dribble it. The different types of dribbling may include low dribble, speed dribble, change of pace dribble, crossover dribble, reverse dribble, half reverse dribble, and hockey dribble. Low dribbling is used when the ball handler has to take advanatage of the time while keeping the ball under control. When you do the change of pace dribble you are trying to make the opponets think that you are going to pass the ball to your other teammates. The crossover dribble is when you are face to face with a guard. You would simply pass the ball to each hand trying to get away from the defense. When using the reverse dribble, you are closely guarded around the defense team. The half reverse dribble is similar to the reverse dribble; but the player makes a 90 degree turn to continue back to his same postion. The hockey dribble is used when the defenders are close on you.
The next important thing is shooting. You have the jump shot, layup, hook shot, dunk, and a free throw. The jump shot the the basic shot of the game, you can do the shot from anywhere on the court. The next one is the layup. There are three different types of layups, down the middle, right, and left. You run up to the basket dribbling the ball and you use one hand to put the ball into the basketball hoop. Many people use the layups when they steal the ball from the other team. The hook shot is when you are facing a taller person and you turn around them and throw the ball up over your head and into the basket. A dunk is when you slam the ball down into the basketball with your hands touching the rim. A free throw is when the player is fouled. The players get 1-3 shots depending on the type of foul that was called.
